Medical Acquisition Company, Inc. (MAC) has been working with hospitals and outpatient surgery centers for over 15 years to provide the highest quality of care possible to persons who have been injured in third-party accidents and who don't have the funds or health insurance to pay for their medical treatment.
- Hospitals that contract with MAC to provide healthcare services to patients on a lien(s)/Letter of Protection(s) with MAC are not at risk for the services they provide. Per contract, MAC guarantees payment to hospitals and outpatient surgery centers within 10 days of receipt of the facility's bill. When MAC pays the facility, MAC and not the facility is at risk. Should the case not settle well, or is lost in court, MAC and not the facility takes the financial loss. MAC will never seek recourse from the facility.
- MAC is the guarantor/payor, but unlike health plans, there are no retro denials for care provided by facilities with MAC. Once surgery or care is authorized and completed by MAC, it will not be at some later time denied, and payment not issued to facility.
- MAC purchases AR from hospitals. If a hospital with a trauma unit ever needed a partner, it is MAC. We will work with the hospital to identify trauma cases that could potentially be accepted by MAC. If accepted, MAC, in agreement with the hospital will purchase the old trauma receivables, per the contracted rate, and then bring that patient back to the hospital for the needed surgery. Through MAC's ability to purchase trauma receivables, the hospital is now going to receive two reimbursements for a case that originally was a non pay.
- Hospitals continue to experience an ongoing increase in expenses. One area of major concern is Bad Debt. There are three key areas that have a significant part in the overall bad debt hospitals are faced with. One of these is the growing numbers of uninsured and underinsured patients hospitals are experiencing. This is the population who become MAC "Qualified Patients". MAC can prove to be a valuable partner to the hospital and outpatient surgery center as it lessens the bad associated with the growing numbers of patients who are uninsured or underinsured
- One major advantage to having a contract with MAC is that MAC is able to bring new business to the hospital or surgery center that it would not otherwise receive.
- Facilities that contract with MAC now have an alternative to seeking recourse against patients who don't have the ability to pay their bills. The high costs and time associated with pursuing the non paying patients, and the low return on your efforts can be greatly reduced. Instead of the negative affects of aggressively pursuing these patients, the facility is now viewed as a healthcare facilitator in the community, and a new marketing and PR tool is realized.
- Finally, facilities contracted with MAC experience an increase in loyalty from staff physicians who provide care for Macs' qualified patients. In an era when there is an increase in the growth of physician owned specialty hospitals across the nation competing with hospitals, hospitals now have a tool to lessen the growing competition from physicians. Physician alignment and loyalty to a hospital is now more than ever before going to be one of the major reasons that will allow hospitals to maintain steady and strong patient volume now and in the upcoming years.
